Hi, my name is Rachel, and I'm 23 years old. I was born and raised in Melbourne Australia, where I am living currently. I was born totally blind, though I do have a bit of light perception. actually, I can see outlines of shapes and objects, as well as being able to see shadows.
I have many interestes, including reading, writing stories, playing and working with computers (including chatting and surfing the net), yacking on the phone, listening to music, as well as the obvious, hanging out with friends and family.
Check out the organization which is the best in Aus for resources it provides to the blind. For the first nnine years of my life, I attended playgroup, kindergarten and juniour schooling at RVIB. I then was intergrated out into a mainstream school. Verdale primary was the school; it's now known asrangeview Primary. When my time was up there, I attendedvermont secondary college, where I completed my schooling in 1998.
After spending two years volunteering at RVIB as well as completing various short computer courses there, I thought it was time to try and move on with something a bit more stable. I always like stability in my life. It's very important for me to know what I'm doing from one day to the next, and be in place somewhere.
I am resitting my VCE (getting full credability from VBOS, unlike my previous sitting of the VCE. In other words, this time I'm going the TER score.) I'm achieving this at the
cAE (centre For Adult Education)
After much confusion for a lot of last year, (not to mention previously) I am deciding to persue a goal I have had for a while, (but didn't think I could go for it), of teaching. I was interested in late primary school, but now am thinking that secondary school will be just as awesome.
I've always been the sort of person who can relate to people of all ages, but really especially love speaking (and obviously working) with adolescents, teenagers, etc.
I am therefore also wanting to be a school counsellor alongside.
and my other career path, (though completely different) is radio. It's another career prospect that I would feel equally as settled in as my career goals of my life being complete.
I will be off to uni (hopefully Monash - first prefference) to complete an arts degree, majoring in English and Psychology, then on to the dimploma of secondary education.
Later on this year, I will be applying for these uni's through
VTAC!
