Wednesday 7th November 2001
Today we got the results from Megan's MRI scan that she had on Monday.
The news was neither good nor bad - it was a little indifferent in hind sight.
Megan's neurosurgeon, Wirginia Maixner, showed us the pictures, and showed us 3
small 'spots' that showed in the axial sections (horizontal cuts from the top of
her head down) on her scan. These 'spots' did not, however, appear on the
sagittal (vertical cuts from ear to ear) or coronal (vertical cuts from nose to
back of her head) sections - which is indicative of "abstract flow" of
the contrast. I had to ask twice what this meant? Basically, they think that the
'spots' are not tumour as they should appear on all sections (axial, sagittal
& coronal) and as they appeared on only one section, and in effect 1D rather
than 3D, it is believed the 'spots' are simply a flow of contrast and not
tumour. This is good news. Having contrasted highlights on her scan is not
particularly good news as they cannot completely rule out the fact that it might
be tumour. In Wirginia's words "they make me a little uneasy". Despite
this, Megan's scan has been reported as STABLE. This is great news! So...we have
good news, not such good news and great news - hence the indifference! Megan
will have a repeat MRI in 3 months, which is no change to the original plan - so
we are taking this scan as a mini-win!
Sunday 4th November 2001
Megan has an MRI scan tomorrow. It is a little over 6 months since she had
the complete resection of her tumour. As it is Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday, we
do not have our follow up appointments until Wednesday, so we will not know
results until then. Please keep Megan in your hearts, minds and prayers that she
may continue to have a clean scan.
